Welcome to My World..

My names are Adesina, Oluwagbemiro Isaiah. I hail from Imala, Yewa Area of Ogun State in the South West of Nigeria. I started my educational career at St. Murumba Catholic Primary School, Ile-Ife. Being an adventurer, l joined Boys Scout in primary four. I will and can never forget my boys scout experience which I had in training, camps, travelling and official functions where I participated in maintaining law and order. I had my secondary school education at Seventh Day Adventist Grammar School and St. John Grammar School, Ile-Ife. My good friends then are: Obayelu Adesola, now in America, Adekola Ola, a lecturer at University of Agriculture, UNAAB, Biola, Emmanuel Ojo, a lecturer at Osun State University, Tejumade Sijuade, Adetutu Okeyode, a nurse with University College Hospital (UC, Ibadan and Sola Famoriyo, an immigration officer in Nigeria.

My long desire to study Mass Communication made me to accept offer of admission at Ogun State Polytechnic in 1989/90 and rejected admission at Ogun State University same year. As a young man who was brought up in the way of the Lord, I joined Campus Fellowship. Under the platform I evangelized my Lord and personal Saviour, Jesus Christ. I was also appointed as a sub-Editor of the school magazine, EXQUISITE of which l gained insight into the practice of journalism and was able to influence the opinions of who matters in the school and its environ. My friends in the polytechnic include: Bunmi, Tunde, Jamiu, Tuminnu, Bukola Oyewole, Remi Koleosho, Joke Akinremi and Deola Odubena. Between 1995 and May 1996, I was in Defence Academy, Kaduna town in Kaduna State for one year compulsory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. I was elected as the Secretary-General of Publicity and Enlightenment Committee, a Public Relations arm of NYSC. It had nice experiences I can never forget in my life as a corper. First, I was among those who compelled the military authority to improve the welfare packages given to corps members at the Defence Academy. With unrelenting daily protest, the authority under the leadership of Air Vice Marshal Daggash increased our monthly stipend from N200 to N950 with a promise that it will be increased to N1, 200 in the following year but we did not stay to witness and enjoy another increment. We were able to change the corpers lodge from the residential quarters of the other ranks to officers’ quarters where we should ordinarily belong without demand. In a yearly friendly football match normally organize to send forth corpers, it was exciting to break a record by beating soldiers 2-1. However, I turned down three appointments that I was offered to stay back in Kaduna due to the insecurity of the Yoruba people in the North and personal reasons.

When I returned from Kaduna, I joined the defunct Lagos News, an evening newspaper as a reporter. Lagos News is a title being published by John West Group of Companies. Working with Lagos News where I took my first reportorial appointment was very challenging to me as a curb reporter who wanted to make a mark in his chosen career. I was privileged to escape the arrest of the late military junta, Genera Sanni Abacha who ordered for my arrest as a result of my piece tagged, “Abacha over ambition is a threat to national unity and security”. My activities as regards calling for the prosecution of other military officers that planned coup with General Oladipupo Diya incurred the wrath of General Abacha. Thank God, the dark era has gone.

Between 1998 and 2000, I deviated into non journalism profession coupled with academic. I gained admission to University of Ado-Ekiti, UNAD to study Business Administration at master level. December 2001, l returned back to journalism by joining The Monitor Newspaper. I later crossed to the defunct Daily Times in 2003 and left in 2005 when it liquidated. I had a brief stay at Business Day Newspaper before joining Independent Communication Nigeria Limited, ICNL, the Publisher of The News Magazine and PM NEWS, where l am currently as a correspondent in Oyo State.

I was an active member of Junior Chamber International before age caught up with me. I was the protem and chartered President of Ekiti Junior Chamber and call it quit after serving as the National Vice President, Nigeria Junior Chamber. I am an NJC Councilor as well as NJC and prime graduate. Most of all, I am a practicing Christian.
